In 1945 WW2 ended. (DO I NEED A REFERENCE FOR THIS?) This event is critical, as it shaped a new identity of American society. In the years following the end of WW2, America experienced a great economical, as well as an industrial boom. There were “higher …wages“, “plentiful…jobs" , the average American was looking for ways to “modernize“ (American Experience, Editors). The time period was also marked by a growing presence of mass media and “Visual culture“ (Halliwell, 189), with a “pronounced focus“ on everything that was American. (Stich, 111) Under this would fall television, magazines, newspapers and especially advertising.

This new focus paved the way for an “American mass culture“ (Stich, 115). This phenomenon had practical applications
