How Did American Imperialism Affect The Philippines

After the civil war, the United States had begun its turn that led them to set as the world function. From the late 1800s, the United States began to collect power through Cuba, Hawaii, and the Philippines. Economic became a large factor in the American imperialism; more specifically, that development in foreign trades is a crucial part in the growth of America. The United States had become an empire. The America achieved what they want, however they took advantage of their superiority, and forced their power upon lands whom they had been involved with. Thousands and thousands of people have already died before America stopped. (Espiritu, p1) This shows that most of Philippines have been badly affected by US actions. Dating way back then in 1810, Kamehameha, the Great united all of the Hawaiian islands and called it Hawaiʻi. The Hawaiian Kingdom was an independent country until Hawaiʻi was involved with the US. In 1848, the American sugar planters had granted influence with King Kamehameha III. Much later then in 1875, King Kalakaua and the US signed a treaty so sugar could be cheaper in America. By 1897, McKinley became president and proclaimed Hawaiʻi a US territory in August 12, 1898. No Hawaiian had ever voted or heard of this.
