While at the homestead, Thomas was fast asleep until Chuck woke him up and said, “He’s alive” referencing to Alby. In the next few days Newt comes to visit and tells Thomas that the worst part of the changing was over for Alby, there was no change in The Girl, and the most important thing is that there would be a Gathering regarding on what to do with you. At the Gathering Thomas was surrounded by eleven chairs, while Newt is in charge instead of an sickly Alby. During the Gathering every keeper had a chance to talk, but a angry Gally kept interrupting until Minho comes up a crazy idea to make Thomas the Keeper of the Runners. The room was shocked with the idea until Minho explains the bravery and amazing things Thomas did in the maze. After this all went down Thomas was only put in the glade’s jail for one day, then the next day he will begin his runner training. As Thomas was exiting the gathering Chuck comes up to Thomas saying that Alby wants to see you
