Student Writing Habits

Students going through the process of reading and writing have the essential capability of being able to use different approaches on how to successfully be ready for college level courses. Even though it is known that students can approach writing in a successful manner they are not taught how to take it as an advantage. High school students are told to read and write but they are not encouraged to use “Habits of Mind” where a student will lack the ability to fully engage in the assignment. Reading from this excerpt allows an understanding as to what someone as a person can do to make writing much simpler and still have successful writing skills. With “Habits of Mind” a student’s writing will show how lively they approach a topic but when in high school a student has yet to use all these habits. In high school students are taught to approach a topic with curiosity and creativity; many students can achieve this but the problem would be that they have not used all other important strategies. Even if students are aware of the abilities they have they may not use all or lack the most important one.
With all these habits in mind I realize that my high school reading and writing skills and abilities do include a majority of these habits along with some strategies. Also knowing what I have lacked of using as ability in writing, I can understand how important it is to include in most topics. Crediting the people in which a writer gathered information from shows immense responsibility of respecting the other person’s findings and knowledge. With all of these habits as well as the others it is an easy way of becoming a better writer. These habits all include what writings should have and it is exactly what college level classes would be looking for. Keeping these in mind a person can finally take use of them and learn to use them in all writings to keep having successful writings.
