The Importance Of Competition In My Life

Competition is and will always be a part in our life, and is a component that regularly effects life experiences. We will always be motivated by the idea of winning, to get something, to achieve and to beat others. During my high school years, it seemed as if my life revolved around competition which was cheerleading. It was what centered me and kept me in check, not only in my school work but also my life. Competition changed the way I did things and made me realize my potential which I had not before. While there were many difficult times in my experience with competition, it has made me a better person by teaching me life skills that made me stronger and better. I became a go-getter kind of person when someone tells me I am unable to achieve something I have to prove them wrong and achieve beyond expectation. This is why when competition season came around I put my 110% to show that I obtained my best and was doing my all to win. On my team giving up was not an option. Our coach would not allow that behavior and if you showed it she would show that you are replaceable so you better try your best. There was always competition between my teammates. It was nonstop fighting for your spot on the team. This I feel benefitted me because it forced me to do everything to maintain my position. Along with forcing me to do my best, competition kept me balanced. Like every other sport to be an active member on the team you had to maintain a certain grade average. I recall seeing one girl taken off the team until she improved in school. Of course I made sure never to get to that point. On my cheer team I had one of the most important position which was flyer. Since I started cheer very early I was one of the most experienced flyers. I could not mess up because I had to maintain a self image and be an example to those learning from me. I could not disappoint anyone, especially my coach. There was a constant pressure on me but I learned early on how to manage it and not let it get to me. I of course at all times respected my coach and team mates with everything they did. By joining cheer one aspect that was really incorporated into my life was discipline. One example competition did this for me is when I went to work out. If I needed to increase my muscle mass I had to teach myself to do it even if my body is sore and wants to give up, this is where i learned discipline. It took all my energy to work at my goal rather than sit on my couch at home and do nothing. Whenever I did physical activity I pushed my body to its limits but, in order to do this I had to have endurance and dedication. I would push myself to greatness which in my opinion separates the winners and losers. The winners do the maximum to achieve their goal while the losers are trying their least or minimum. What you put in is what you get out. Jennifer Lopez lives by this quote. She says, “You get what you give, What you patient things is what you et out of them” (Jennifer Lopez 241). My coach also would tell my team always give your 110% no matter what. I definitely saw the difference when I would not try to when I did and the outcome would be what was expected. Competition taught me to be responsible for my actions. So in a way it change me for the better by teaching me about my

Middle Ages Essay Jazlyn Barnes Every person has standard rules they have to obey based on what society tells them such as laws, but what makes us different is we each have our own code of honor to live by as well. This code of honor is our morals and values set in place to define how we make decisions. As Alice Waters once said, “ The decisions you make are a choice of values that reflect your life in every way”. A few of the values I try to embody are being able to work as a team, being loyal to those I love, and living in a Godly way to make sure I am not causing others to stumble in their faith based off my actions. One thing that is important to have being apart of a sports team is being supportive and successful together.…

The Lesson in Quitting For the past 7 years of my life, swimming has played a huge role. Growing up, I had always enjoyed being in the water, and was one of the odd kids that genuinely enjoyed swimming lessons, no bribes required (thinking about it, I wish I had some of those kids in the lessons I teach now). Overtime, it began to feel less like a passion and more like an obligation; something I had committed to that was too late to stop. I was afraid to quit, afraid to disappoint, and trying to be dedicated to a sport I had lost interest in made me start to hate it. This year, I finally decided to drop the sport, and am now embracing the huge change it has had in my life.…
