Grapevine Communication Analysis

Your citing of Rogers had me thinking more about how communication goes beyond voice or text, that we have to consider failures with information being too complex and misunderstood by others. This could easily be a significant reason for grapevine communication. I know that early in my career I was in situations where co-workers would discuss work negatively based on information they never fully understood. At that time, I was middle management in the enlisted ranks of the military. I was unable to influence co-workers positively; they preferred the information clarified by senior leadership, who at the time probably had no knowledge of the misrepresented information within the grapevine. What I have personally experienced is that teams have an opportunity to produce not only positive tangible results but intangible ones as well. The very thought of being part of a team, or selected to work a particular project is that it can build esprit de corp, in whatever the work may be. These teams and experiences can be a far more rewarding experience than the alternative of work groups, comprised of individuals who work together for a short time to complete a job or a task then disband. One journal study supported this, stating, by organizing work that proved to be productive and efficient in terms of human potential recovery of an organization is to promote teamwork and strengthen a culture of teamwork.
