One important idea from “How College Friendships May Affect Student Success,” is that students form diverse friendships and these help how they perform in college. Author Anya Kamentetz explains that three types of student’s friendship which were results from research by Janice McCabe, an associate professor of sociology. Janice McCabe surveyed various group of 67 and found out varieties of social networks existing among college students and these bring either academic and social benefits or disadvantages. According to the results of survey, there are three basic types of student’s friendships which were tight-knitters, compartmentalizers, and samplers. Close friends can positively influence scholastic and social aspects of one’s life. They can share their goal or interests and give advices to help to make good decision, which is a healthy friendship. In college, new teaching methods and assignment are unfamiliar to many new college students, so they might be embarrassed. Tight-knitters help one another to orient themselves to college life and share information, resources or listen to concern of class. Furthermore, they help one another grow as a better person in the future by motivating. For example, my friends and me decided to focus on schoolwork at second semester except one friend. At that time, we had all same classes. We shared each other’s class notes to supply the missing information. Furthermore, we came up with a list of expected questions for the exam and studied together. A result of midterm, we all got A grade except one friend. I really worried about one friend, so I begged her to study to increase her GPA whish was in problem. I also went to her dormitory room to wake her up and went to class together. I even forced her to come library to study together. We also had numerous time to take about our dream job and purpose to be motivated. Now I cannot stay with my friends because of studying abroad, but one friend still texts me that she is no more a latecomer. Furthermore, last year she attended a Chinese university
