Personal Statement: How Proactive Are You

Improved Essays
1.How proactive are you?
9
I’d say on a scale of 1-10, I’m about a 9. I think this is one of my strongest qualities—I DO enjoy figuring things out for myself, I’m incredibly independent and I’m always doing something (at work, that is). I do tend to ask a bazillion questions, some of them a little bit stupid, just because I want to make sure I do the job EXACTLY how my manager/boss wants it done.
2) How resourceful are you?
9.5
Again, this is another strong quality of mine. I moved to Texas 8 years ago, I have no family even remotely close by, and I haven’t had a romantic partner in years…You kind of have to learn how to be resourceful when the only person you can depend on is yourself. I’ve learned to think outside the box and

As a manager, I would call out an employee on feedback a customer gave or ask why they were late and didn’t call, and all I ever got was excuses and arguing. That’s not to say that excuses are bad in those types of situations, but it becomes a little frustrating when one can’t take responsibility for their actions. I think—for the most part—I can see when I’ve offended someone, late to an appointment, or didn’t do something I said I would. I realize that my actions are not only an inconvenience to another, but it can have some serious consequences for them. It seems to be a growing trend these days, and it just signifies an immature, self-centered individual who doesn’t respect their peers/managers/humans-in-general enough to accept that they made a mistake and it impacted someone else’s life in one way or another. 8) How organized are you?
8
I was raised by someone with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and as a result, I am pretty detail oriented and organized. Not pretty detail oriented, I am EXTREMELY detail oriented. I notice small things and am a total observer—it’s a blessing and a curse. Anyway, I don’t enjoy clutter, things on the floor, and I have designated spots where items are supposed to go. I don’t do labels or anything like that, but when I have a clean room, I tend to feel better, am happier, and am much more productive. 9) How much of a team player are you?

Scolding one for failure despite their best efforts is an abysmal act, as George Washington once credited, “When a person did his best do not scold him for his failure.” The quote produced by the 1st President, displays best efforts lacking successful results are similar or more beneficial than an absence of exertion with positive results. One’s best effort with failure shouldn’t be scolded, for your best effort, is better than a poor effort. Growing up in one of the poorest regions of the United States has taught me two things; one, we are not defined by stereotypes, and two, hardships are made to be overcome. Nestled in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, Middlesboro, KY sits on the Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia border. The multicolored fall foliage and the vivid green mountains in the spring are disserved by the descriptor spectacular. My roots are firmly nestled in the Cumberland Gap where Daniel Boone started his journey to the West decades ago. I am proud to call myself an Appalachian-American.…

I believe that there is a present stereotype that becoming familiar with time management and organization requires an individual to set self-restraining routine to complete daily tasks. As a result, this causes them to give up the finer things. This presumption alone could prompt someone to consider that highly organized people are uninteresting, uptight, “neat-freaks” who are always striving to be perfect in everything they do and are too preoccupied to pay attention to anything else. However, I have to disagree. I see getting rid of spontaneity and acquiring these abilities as a stepping stone towards a more productive and enjoyable life.…

“Oh, I’m have to keep my room organized. I am so OCD.” Commonalities such as this one are frequently misused by many people - most of whom are people who do not even have Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder or simply have not been educated about what the disorder actually is. OCD is oftentimes seen as simply a facet of every person’s personality that makes him or her desire to keep things clean or organized a certain way. Although a symptom of some people’s OCD can be related to organization, their compulsions tend to be more complex, long-lasting, and detrimental; sometimes including compulsions that can last upwards of an hour (Fennell 1).…
