How Christopher's Character Changes Throughout The Book

Christopher is one of the characters that the author gives much attention and details his social life in many chapters. But, he also shifts the spotlight into his private life and shows his personality through many spectrums and things he experiences through his lifetime. The author gives many hints to understand the character of Christopher and his uniqueness. He knows all the countries of the world and their capitals, every prime number until 7,057, but his personality goes beyond. He cannot bear color yellow and brown such that he refuses to even eat foods of that color. In the book, Christopher finds out many secrets that bring him into isolation. Just like him, people are surrounded by secrets and lies in everyday life. But sometimes, these little things hurt people to an extent that it can bring them to a downfall. However, the author, Haddon creates a plot twist for the readers that they wouldn't expect, nevertheless from Christopher. Christopher is shown to also lie to his father about when he finds the letter from his mother and decides to go to London so he can meet her. Christopher never tells his father, and only is able to get his credit card so he can pay for the train ticket and everything else. He loathed lying that he explains, “I do not tell lies. Mother used to say that this was because I was a good person. But it is not because I am a good person. It is because I can’t tell lies” (Haddon 19). In this quote he explains that if he knew how to lie better, he would do it but now he doesn’t, because he doesn’t know how to lie. Christopher's perspective on lying changes as he calls a white lie, not lying because that means he isn’t just telling the full truth. He starts getting more comfortable with lying after he learns some things that got him to lie to his father about what he was doing that he went to London
