Turn on the television and there likely will be news reports of Islamic radicals attacking and killing groups of people for some reason or another. Countless reports of extremists who carry out their massacres in the name of God make it difficult for some to see and to understand how Christianity and Islam share many of the same values. God gives Moses the ten commandments in Exodus 20:3-17, making clear the values of Christianity. Likewise, the Quran includes a version of the ten commandments in sura Al-An 'am 6:151 and also in Al-Isra 17:22-36. Both are monotheistic, serving only one God. They both have prophets, share the same prophets and the same stories such as the story of Prophet Joseph and Prophet Moses. What is read about Adam and Eve in the Bible can also be found in the Quran with slight differences in the stories. Some of the differences, though, are such as Muslims view Muhammad to be the last prophet of God while the Christians believe Jesus was God made into human form. Muslims believe that Jesus was a prophet, quite like Muhammad, Adam, Moses, etc. For Christians, to go to heaven, one must believe that Jesus is their Savior. Muslims who convert to Islam recite that Shahada – accepting that there is no other god, except Allah and Prophet Muhammad is his messenger and they repeat it again on their deathbed. Both Christians and Muslims pray to God and ask for forgiveness of sins. As a matter of fact, both religions also find fasting to be an excellent way to get closer to God. Then again, in Islam, fasting during the month of Ramadan is mandatory (for most Muslims). Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam, the other four including the Shahada, Salat (prayer), Zakat (charity) and Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca). While among Christians there is argument as to when and how the apocolypse will come, most all Muslims are in agreement it will follow as it is told in Quran. They believe the world will end and a new life will start in hereafter. Everyone will be judged and rewarded according to their good deeds. The beliefs each religion have had of one another have differed greatly. While Muslims were content allowing Christianity to exist alongside it peacefully, Christians did not feel the same way. Eventually this led to the Crusades, which were military-religious efforts to seize the sites of Biblical history from the “unfaithful”, i.e. Muslims. Nevertheless, although many Christian rulers have tried to stamp out Islam throughout the years, Islam remains undefeated.
