As the old saying goes, “ Girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice.”,but now more than ever, they’re made of sugar. Over the past 200 years American’s thoughts about sugar have drastically changed. Since the days of chase lozenges, people’s Ideas about sugar have changed because of it’s price. availability, and health. One significant point about how people’s ideas about sugar have shifted is the price. According to “How candy conquered america”, “ Sweet treats [can come] in large quantities and [be] sold cheaply in stores” ( Tarshis 24). To elaborate, the price of sweets went down, so people became more acceptant of it. All these health risks scare people; when people are scared theirs attitude toward something becomes negative. It also says, “ Depression and tiredness have been linked to sugar...”(25) Depression and tiredness are everyday things that some people have to cope with. If sugar can lead to these ailments, people will consume less of it.
