American Dream Can we all achieve the american dream? It is said that everyone has an equal opportunity to achieve success through hard work and determination. The reason not everyone achieves the american dream is because they are not willing to work for it. Some are more determined while others would rather take the easy road. This is shown through a couple poems and a quote by Richard Nixon. They’re 2 types of people, one’s who give up and those who keeping trying no matter the struggles they face. “...thanks everybody! And forgive me for ever wanting to be anything at all! FORGIVE ME, FORGIVE ME, FORGIVE ME! (1.1.123) Beneatha is not the one to just give up on her dreams, especially if someone tries to tell her that she can’t. Throughout the story she doesn’t let her dream fade, it is always shown through her. In this quote she apologizes for having a dream that she is passionate about. Mama wanted Walter to understand that things have to get done by working, things won’t always be handed to him. “The american dream does not just come to those who fall asleep.”(Richard Nixon) He says this from experience, he did not become the president of the United States just by sleeping and having things handed to him.
