How Can Tactile Learners Affect My Learning Style

Improved Essays
All individuals are different, we don’t all learn the same and there are unique qualities in us all. For example, we all learn in different ways and therefore we all have our own learning style. There are three different learning styles, visual, auditory and kinesthetic/tactile learners, these 3 elements determine how well you learn and they are important factors in determining what study methods you should use and assimilate as you grow. After taking two different learning style tests I discovered that I am not only a visual learner but also a tactile learner. For the first test I received 35% compatibility for both tactile and visual learning styles. These results shocked me, as I have always thought myself to be a dominant visual learner. I was not surprised after taking the second results that I had also received similar results as the first test. However, in the second test I was 45% visual and 40% tactile, however, once again my results concluded that I was both a visual and kinesthetic leaner. …show more content…
For both assessments I was given similar types of questions, however the format was different. The first assessment consisted of picking one answer out of the three choices given and for the second assessment I was told to pick multiple answers based on what statements I agreed with. I believe that the second assessment was more accurate for the fact that it did not limit my choices as the first learning style test did. It did not restrict me to any other choices that I may also have agreed with and I believe that is why my results on both tests were

My parents have always challenged me to strive to do my best since I was a child. From pushing me to learn how to ride a bike at age five, to striving me to achieve a higher ACT score to attend the college I love, I learned how to become very independent and credible. As I approached my high school years, I changed mentally by creating a positive mindset after my freshman year. As to this day, getting a 3.11-grade point average has affected me in both positive and negative ways. One characteristic that I figured out about myself is that I am a person who learns from mistakes due to the fact that I am a tactile learner.…

When I took the learning styles assessment it concluded that I am a tactile learner, which indicates that I comprehend by doing or touching. It is difficult for me to process information just by listening or reading, I would have to physically write it down over and over for it be imprinted into my brain. I use a lot of hand gesture while speaking because it helps me remember what the situation was about, and if I need to spell out a word I have to fingerspell it out in the air. Or if I’m trying to solve a math problem in my head, I would sometimes use my finger as a pen on my desk and solve it with my imagination. The assessment states that tactile learners use flashcards and arrange them into groups by relationship in order to absorb the…

Initially, I was aware that I am an auditory learner before taking the learning style assessment. However, I also assumed that I would score higher as a visual learner on the questionnaire. According to my learning style results, I scored a total of thirty-two points for auditory preferences for learning, compared to my scoring for both visual and tactile learning style that resulted in twenty-six points. After evaluating my assessment, I can recall from my past experiences in several of my science courses, where I used auditory learning style more during class lectures compared to visual style. To clarify, and as stated in my previous journal entries, before changing my major to health sciences, I was a radiology major.…

Kinesthetic learning is learning through experience from the application of your senses. I apply the kinesthetic learning style when it is available, such as labs for science, or on the job training. For myself this is the learning style where I can comprehend and understand the most as I will more likely be able to remember the experience. While the aural learning style is available to be used widely, kinesthetic learning is less broad. As a narrower field, it cannot always be practical to some things such as reading, or…

There was no significant (P > 0.05) difference in academic performance among the five learning preferences: visual, aural, read/ write, kinesthetic and multimodal. This finding is in disagreement with Felder (1993), who is one of few researchers to report that an association exists between 90 Victor Mlambo a student’s learning preference, teaching style and academic performance. Apart from Felder’s work, there is a general lack of experimental evidence to support the effectiveness of aligning instruction methods with learning preferences. The lack of association between learning preferences and academic performance in this study could either be a result of the VARK® questionnaire failing to accurately assess the learning preferences (and hence failing to place students into distinct learning preference categories) of the students or a reflection of a teaching style that encompasses different delivery methods such that none of the learning preferences were disadvantaged. Table 5.…
