When boys are victims, sexual abuse may take place outside the home, and perpetrators may be strangers. Perpetrators of sexual abuse of children often claim that they themselves were victims of childhood sexual abuse. Psychological profiles are helpful but are compromised partly because many perpetrators are prisoners and control groups are lacking for this research. Pedophilia is a psychiatric disorder in which an adult or older adolescent is sexually attracted to young children. Pedophiles can be anyone, old or young, rich or poor, educated or uneducated, non-professional or professional, and of any race. However, pedophiles often demonstrate similar characteristics, but these are merely indicators and it should not be assumed that individuals with these characteristics are pedophiles. But knowledge of these characteristics coupled with questionable behavior can be used as an alert that someone may be a pedophile.
In most cases, the pedophile is someone known to the child at school or another activity, such as a neighbor, teacher, coach, and member of the clergy, music instructor, or babysitter. It is not uncommon for them to be developing a long list of potential victims at any one time. Many of them believe that what they are doing is not wrong and that having sex with a child is actually "healthy" for the

Rapists, child molesters, and sexual predators: the list can keep going with the various names these monsters are called. Twenty-five years that’s how long it took the justice system to execute Roderick Nunley a man who fatally stabbed and raped a 15-year-old girl in 1989. The young lady whose life was cut short was waiting for the bus when this monster decided on a whim that he was going to kidnap her. Not only did Roderick Nunley rape her, but he also followed this with sodomizing her before brutally stabbing her repeatedly in the neck and stomach. The body of Ann Harrison was found three days later found in the trunk of a car.…

“People often picture child sex offenders as unclean men with a long beard and a black trench coat. This, however, is typically not the case” (“Inside the Mind”). The image of the common sex offender is very misconstrued. Many times they are not rough and gritty men, but more so clean cut gentlemen. Many people tend to think that a child molester is a strange man that swoops up a child out of nowhere but, the truth is that most offenders know their victims before they assault them.…

The definition of Pedophilia is the sexual feelings toward children. The first documentation of Pedophilia was in 1886 by a German sexologist Richard-Krafft-Ebing. He believed that Pedophilia was psychosexual perversion, and that there may be a cure. His counterpart Havelock Ellis had presented Pedophilia as an extreme version of one’s masculinity and that it was quite normal to be attracted to children. However, as of today, Pedophilia is understood to be caused by psychological damage throughout early childhood.…

This was first looked at by researchers beginning in the 1880s, which was referred to as the first wave of panic. Many researchers such as Richard von Krafft-Ebing, Havelock Ellis, Sigmund Freud, claimed that sexual acts were all rooted and based on psychology (Terry, 2013, pp. 28-29). In addition, a study conducted by Hammer and Glueck, found that "all offenders exhibited five key characteristics: a reaction to massive Oedipal entanglements; castration fear or feelings and fear of approaching mature females psychosexually; interpersonal inhibitions of schizoid to schizophrenic proportions..." (Terry, 2013 p. 36).…

Adult Convicted Sex Offender Every year there are an estimated 50,000 to a million reported cases regarding sexual abuse against children (Flowers, 2006). These cases include, according to Flowers (2006, p. 103), “child rape, child molestation, sexual perversions against children, and the sexual exploitation of children such as through child pornography and child sex rings”. Sometimes, sex offenders can be someone within the family, someone close to the family, or they can be someone who is a stranger and has sexual fixations on boys or girls (Flowers, 2006). I believe that if paraphilias is not dealt with accordingly and the person is not held accountable as soon as the act has been committed, it could escalate to not just an extensive prison sentence, but also the victimization of innocent people as well. If, for example, a woman is committing an act of exhibitionsm, she is attracting all the sex offenders and perverted guys who may take advantage of her and eventually may attempt to sexually assault her. That being said, diagnosing paraphilias, no matter which one it…

The first of which is that pedophilia is a mental disease rather that some criminal decision. The passage “The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders defines pedophilia as an intense and recurrent sexual interest in prepubescent children, and a disorder if it causes a person ‘marked distress or interpersonal difficulty’ or if the person acts on his interests,” shows that this is actually a mental illness and not a choice. Pedophiles all around the world are being treated poorly just because of a disease they have. They are treated so poorly that they could be prohibited from different types of job opportunities and even educational opportunities. An example given in the article is about HIV and AIDS.…

    Essay On Sexual Deviance

Individuals have assorted moral values based on various cultures and subcultures that may differ in their views of conventional and unacceptable sexual behaviors, and whether one has or does partake in certain doings will also impact their views and meanings. I noticed that there are three main categories of deviance: pathological, normal, and sociological. Pathological types of deviance are those that would be apt to most straightforwardly yield extensive agreement about the deviance of the acts. An example of pathological forms of sexual deviance include sexual violence, as portrayed in John Curra’s chapter on Sexual Deviance, “the rape victims themselves report that when they do not tell the police about their victimizations, the main reason is that they view them as private or personal matters” (170). Other examples are pedophilia and…
