How Can Exotic Pet Laws Be Illegal

Decent Essays
Another reason is because it could be illegal. 45/50 states have some kind of law on exotic pets. It could be you need a permit or they are just band from having them. Every state has different exotic pet laws. Some states are specific as to what animals they restrict while others allow pretty much anything to be kept as a pet. Iowa Exotic Pet Laws are pretty straight forward. No dangerous wild animal is to be possessed, owned or bred in Iowa. This is defined as non-domestic cats and dogs, bears, primates, numerous reptiles and more.

At first they were just wild animals roaming the land, but eventually humans started to domesticate them and use them for different tasks. Before cars, trucks and trains were invented, the horse was the only mode of transportation. People would ride them to get to places, or hook them up to wagons to haul large loads, but after the creation of motorized vehicles, horses became a thing of the past. Nobody wanted a horse, but almost everyone had one for sale.…

Violations of hunting laws and regulations concerning wildlife management, local or international wildlife conservation schemes constitute wildlife crimes that are typically punishable. In rural areas of the United States, the key motives for poaching are poverty. Wildlife biologists and conservationists consider poaching to have a detrimental effect on biodiversity both within and outside protected areas as wildlife populations decline, species are depleted locally, and the functionality of ecosystems is disturbed. Poaching has traditionally been defined as the illegal hunting, killing, or capturing of wild animals, usually associated with land use rights. They considered poaching as one of the most serious threats to the survival of plant…

People who own pets, whether they are domestic or wild animals, can be held to a strict liability standard in most states when it comes to the injury of another by their pet, whether it is harm done to another person or to another animal. Strict liability is "applicable even when a defendant is neither negligent nor has any intent of wrongdoing." It is therefore not necessary to prove that the owner had knowledge of an animal's ability to be vicious or that the owner did not take the necessary steps to prevent an attack from occurring. When it comes to domesticated animals, strict liability is imposed in some states "when the owner knows or has reason to know that the animal has vicious propensities."…

Numerous people believe owning an exotic pet, such as a tiger or a lion would be fine, since some people view these exotic animals as normal average pets. However, not many Americans take into consideration the effects these exotic animals can cause to humans and to the animals themselves. The percentages shown above represent the total amount of exotic pets being held captive without a license or a permit, which is 96%, from 1990 all the way up to 2013. For most of us, our pets are just as much a part of the family as our kids. So why is it we don't feed them as well as we feed our kids? That's a good question, especially when it could mean a longer, healthier life. Most pet parents try to buy the highest quality dry or canned food they can afford; however, that's really not the best way to go. Processed pet foods generally contain unknown ingredients, as well as a myriad of preservatives, none of which we would ever think of feeding to our children.…
