How Boy Scouts Changed My Life

Outside of school, I have been involved in multiple activities including sports, working, and Boy Scouts. Boy Scouts of America has had the largest impact on my life. I have been involved with Boy Scouts since I was five, and I am still active; attending every meeting each week, and participating in the activities my troop has to offer. My life has changed due to Boy Scouts. It has taught me things most seventeen-year old’s will not learn until later in life. Scouting has taught me multiple life lessons, from how to start a fire, to making a budget. But, what I think is the most important lesson I have received is: how to work with individuals that are more than double my age, my age, and a few years younger. The concept of the “Buddy Bench” is to create a safe location for children that are being excluded or bullied; where they can make new friendships. The entire process of my service project, from planning to building and completion of the project has resulted in lessons that I can use for the rest of my life. These lessons included: communication skills, budgeting, leadership responsibilities, and keeping a commitment. I wanted to give back to my community and felt that leaving an impact on two schools that impacted me was the best choice for my project.
My Eagle Scout Project has given practice with management and finance; the two majors I am debating between. It has made me realize the difference I can make in my community that affects many people.
Boy Scouts has provided me with situations and experience that I will remember forever. These lessons I will take wherever I go, and will greatly help throughout my life.
