How Basketball Changed My Life

When I was in fourth grade, my best friend Katie, asked if I wanted to play basketball? This opportunity to play basketball with my best friend was great and it resulted in me loving basketball. The enjoyment of being around my friend and attempting to make foul shots was fulfilling. I had lots of fun running up and down the court because I knew I was fast. For five years I played basketball, developed skills and played on a great team all throughout middle school. When I was a Freshman year in high school I tried out for the school basketball team. I remember going to the two day long basketball try outs and ended up being “cut” from team. I was devastated. I had never been told I was bad at basketball before. Often I would wondered to myself, had I always been bad at playing basketball? Although, this was a very difficult experience for me, I was able to learn valuable lessons on being a supportive team player. …show more content…
The next day after tryouts, I showed up to practice and one of my teammate asked if anyone got cut? This was an awkward moment and another embarrassing time in my life. I raised my head and replied I'm the manager. I thought I was not good enough? Often during practice I thought to myself, why should I stay and watch others play a game I loved so much and sit on the sidelines? Moreover, I attended basketball practice every day until the season ended. Coach allowed me to run drills and plays along with the others. I remember sitting in the locker room with my teammates and laughing about the current drama occurring at our high school. Being a freshman, hearing the upperclassmen drama was hilarious. It was tough not being able to play, but I did not want to quit. Also, it was difficult for my mother to attend games to watch her daughter sit on the
