It all started in December 1891 at the international YMCA training school where a group of college students were sent to play indoor activities to burn off their energy from building up from football season. This game was played with nine players on each team, and after 30 minutes of playing the final score was 1-0. The boys had worn T-shirts that looked offly tight, with short shorts that would go up to mid thigh, with long socks and shoes. The thirteen rules of basketball were, the ball may be thrown in any direction with both hands but not with the fist, The player cannot run with the ball he must throw it from the spot he is in, you could only hold the ball with your hands, there would be no shouldering, holding, pushing, striking, or tripping against any opponent. A foul would be counted if hitting the ball with the fist, if either sides make three fouls it would be counted as a goal for the other team, a goal would be made when the ball is thrown into the basket, if the ball goes out of bounds and into the fields it would be played by the first person that touched it, referee’s shall be the judge of the ball and when it goes out of bounds as well as decide when the ball is considered a goal. The game shall be two 15-minute halves with five minute rests between. Lastly the side with the most goals in that time would be declared the winners.
