How Basketball Became Alive

Today millions of people play Basketball, whether it is playing it professionally, for a school activity, or just to get a little bit of exercise. I bet 90% of those people don’t know a thing about who, what, why, or even when basketball came about. I'm here to take you on a journey to understand how basketball became alive.
It all started in December 1891 at the international YMCA training school where a group of college students were sent to play indoor activities to burn off their energy from building up from football season. The indoor activities that they had them doing, didn't help much and the college students didn't want to do them. 31-year-old James Naismith, decided to play a game in which would be played with a soccer ball. This game was played with nine players on each team, and after 30 minutes of playing the final score was 1-0. The boys had worn T-shirts that looked offly tight, with short shorts that would go up to mid thigh, with long socks and shoes. The thirteen rules of basketball were, the ball may be thrown in any direction with both hands but not with the fist, The player cannot run with the ball he must throw it from the spot he is in, you could only hold the ball with your hands, there would be no shouldering, holding, pushing, striking, or tripping against any opponent. A foul would be counted if hitting the ball with the fist, if either sides make three fouls it would be counted as a goal for the other team, a goal would be made when the ball is thrown into the basket, if the ball goes out of bounds and into the fields it would be played by the first person that touched it, referee’s shall be the judge of the ball and when it goes out of bounds as well as decide when the ball is considered a goal. The game shall be two 15-minute halves with five minute rests between. Lastly the side with the most goals in that time would be declared the winners.
A month after Naismith's strange new game, a P.E teacher for the school for women Senda Berenson, caught an eye for the game and decided to create her own version of the game for her students. However when she witnessed the boys game she thought it was to rough and did not believe women

In 1896, ,the first women's intercollegiate game was played by Stanford and the University of California. Stanford won, 2-1, men were to be kept of the women's game, by having women guard the windows and doors. The first known women's basketball game between two high schools (Chicago Austin High School against Oak Park High School) and was played within the Chicago area.
