I believe that the Mongols were one of the most barbaric empires to ever rule in Eurasia. Through their violent battle tactics, their way of destroying everything, and their violent punishment for breaking the law.
One way the Mongolian Empire was barbaric, was how they used their battle tactics. Something they did that was very violent within their own army was, if two or three men ran away, the Khan had the rest of the group of ten executed, for letting the men run away. And if 10 men were to escape the army, the 100 that they were fighting along with them were put to death immediately. Another violent tactic used by the Mongols was that they would go and destroy a certain city, and only left the people they wanted alive. One example of when they did this was in the year of 1221, when the Mongols destroyed a city in Persia named Nishapur. They made their way over the wall surrounding the city, and began killing everyone. After they were done slaying, the Mongols took the remaining survivors onto a plane and beheaded them, one by one. Men, women, children, dogs, and cats, all had their heads cut off. Once each was beheaded, the heads were all thrown into three separate piles (Men, women and children). Another example of the Mongols destroying everything, was what they did when they captured soldiers. Once the opposing army surrendered, they would take the captured citizens and soldiers, and either executed them with a bow or buried them alive upside down, and let them suffocate.
