How Are You Able To Contribute To Diversity

Decent Essays
As an ever evolving society, diversity is key. Each person's strengths plays an integral role in the efficient functioning of our society. So, I am able to see the importance of the diversity and perspectives NC State's community has to offer. Most intriguingly, I will be able to learn and contribute to the diversity. I will have the opportunity to build relationships with others from differing backgrounds. Concertedly, I will be able to share my own experiences and perspectives in those same relationships.

I have had countless first-hand experiences with new cultures. Throughout my teenage life, I have had opportunities to be in the mission field domestically and overseas. There is no other learning alternative to experiencing new cultures. These trips have opened my eyes to the great differences in spirituality and customs; family, food, music, sports, and education. Jointly, I have not lived in one area my entire life. I lived in Eastern Tennessee, which has its own cultural differences in contrast to Eastern North Carolina. I have learned more than I could imagine in a short amount of time. I am now able to respectfully understand others' differing ethnic or racial backgrounds. Diversity will never cease to teach, thus I will have an infinite degree of learning at NC State.

Community outreach has opened my eyes to the multitude of cultures in the community I live in. Diversity is everywhere I look; that is the true beauty of

The diversity at NC State is one of the many reasons that draws me to the University. I look forward to meeting the vast array of individuals who all unite as one in the Wolfpack. Diversity will allow me to understand different people for who they are, not how they are presented in the media and popular culture. Different viewpoints, languages, ethnic groups, and nationalities are just a few of the things I hope to experience at NC State. I find it important to create acquaintances from various backgrounds in order to unite ourselves as fellow humans, regardless of where we were born or what language we speak.…

How can belonging and participating within a diverse community aid in the development of your academic, social and career goals? I usually enjoy starting my papers of with my name Taylor Andrews, what I’m entering for, the battle royal for everything, and my level a EKU JR, and arrogantly but rightly deserves it. Then I would give a generic merriam-webster dictionary for diversity; the quality or state of having many different forms, types, ideas, etc, and then give my view. You may not agree but still feel as if EKU has a large way to go compared to Rutgers University in NJ with a diversity. Diversity plus Eastern Kentucky University is supposed to equal melting pot, but I have not seen this diverse world clearly.…

Fall of 2013 I started the Early College Alliance, otherwise known as ECA. For those who do not know, when you first start ECA you take High School level classes, with other High Schoolers during your first semester. After teachers review your progress you’ll either be placed in College classes, because you’re what they call, “College Ready,” or you’ll take another semester of High School classes. During my second year of ECA, I was placed in EMU College classes. During this time I was exposed to an environment in which I was interacting with adults in a classroom setting, versus being in school with students in my age group.…

Please describe how you could contribute to or benefit from campus diversity. I grew up stuck between two cultures. On my mother’s side I was constantly traveling and exposed to different customs and heritages, while on my father’s side I stayed in one rural place and saw the world in a much deeper perspective. My mother was from Germany and my father had married her and brought her back to the United States. However, my parents didn’t allow me to become ignorant about my German culture.…

Attending a diverse high school has helped influence my desire to attend George Washington University's diversity fly-in program. My high school is made up students with many different backgrounds, ethnicities, and religions, so I have never felt out of place. I am half Egyptian and half Uzbek, so attending a diverse school is a big factor in determining where I attend. At my high school I have met students from many different countries and backgrounds, including Guyana, China, Mexico, Lebanon, and many other countries. I did not expect to become friends with people from many different cultures; however, having friends from different cultures has opened my eyes and helped me experience new things I thought I would never try.…

Life's a journey worth taking the unbeaten path. That is why, despite looking up to my loving parents and having the utmost respect for them, I have taken a different road than they did. However, undergoing any challenge without their guiding experience can certainly prove to be an undertaking. I, a first generation college student, am the pioneer of higher education for my family. Though I join many others in lunging out into the world for the first time, I am doing so without having a father or mother to tell me how to tackle the college experience.…

I am so excited for the opportunity to share in this most diverse campus at NC State! Being a student at NC State, I would both benefit from and contribute to campus diversity. It would enable me to learn about different cultures and inevitably make me a more sensitive person and more tolerant of other peoples views and religious beliefs. Also, being a student at such a diverse campus would prepare me for the work force where I'll encounter people from all walks of life who's views might be different from my own. On the day of the event, I became hesitant in my choice of attending the lecture. I knew what the lecture was scheduled to be about, but I questioned if I would be welcomed to participate, even with it being open to the public. The atmosphere on campus inspired me. Seeing the different ethnicities of students as I walked to the Talley Student Union was different from what I had become accustomed to with working on the campus of a historically black college/university.…
