I have had countless first-hand experiences with new cultures. Throughout my teenage life, I have had opportunities to be in the mission field domestically and overseas. There is no other learning alternative to experiencing new cultures. These trips have opened my eyes to the great differences in spirituality and customs; family, food, music, sports, and education. Jointly, I have not lived in one area my entire life. I lived in Eastern Tennessee, which has its own cultural differences in contrast to Eastern North Carolina. I have learned more than I could imagine in a short amount of time. I am now able to respectfully understand others' differing ethnic or racial backgrounds. My mind is more open to other's perspectives than it would have been if I would not have built relationships with those in differing cultures. I find enjoyment in sharing my learning experiences with my peers. By doing so, I have discovered there is much diversity within my own community.
