What an honor it must have been to be chosen by God to lead God's chosen people out of bondage, and into the Promised Land. Moses must have been very brave, and commanding in order to carry out such an enourmeous task as that. What a priveledge! If God were not the Great and powerful Being that He is. He would have needed someone very brave and commanding, but since He is; He chose Moses. Moses; a middle-aged shephard, slow in speech, and a runaway from Egypt because of a murder he commited in his moment of weakness and hot-headness was chosen by God to lead Israel. What kind of leader is that? God had been planning the Exodus since long before Moses came into existence and He knew He wanted to use Moses to carry out the task. …show more content…
He supplied all the excuses he could muster and after God had countered every single one, Moses simply requested God choose someone else. God used Moses despite his resistance. Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt and developed an intimate relationship with God. You can plainly see in the book of Exodus that as Moses grows spirtually he matures in wisdom. However, Moses did have his short comings, and because of one of those he was not allowed to enter into the Promised Land. Although, as an example of God's mercy He did allow Moses to look out across the country that He was giving to the Israelites. The lives of the Israelites in no way resembled a loving and perfect group of people. They were impatient and full of complaints. They turned away from God many times and it was no doubt frustrating to Moses to watch them again and again repent and then turn away, but he perserveered. This showed his determination and proved that the years he had put in as a shephard had indeed been for a reason. In Exodus, Moses did not go seeking justice on his own. He was walking along in the desert and happened to stumble upon a burning bush and happened to be the one chosen to fight for justice. Without prior knowledge, Moses was in God’s plan all along to free the Israelites from Egypt, but was never revealed until that moment. If Moses had simply shrugged off all of God’s commands and tried to run away from these responsibilities, it would have been much more difficult for the Israelites to achieve justice if there one advocate was extremely unwilling to cooperate. If Moses also did not share a similar definition of justice as God and believed more in the Pharaoh, the journey would not have worked well.…

After Moses moves to Midian and marries into Jethro’s family, Jethro sees Moses’ great potential and that, “Moses had the genius for leadership… Here was the man of science such as the world had never seen” (Hurston, 112). However, ironically, “He had no mission in life except to study… Moses could become King over all the local chiefs, but he made no move in that direction even when he was urged. He just had no wish to govern his fellow man” (Hurston, 112). Despite Moses’ intellectual knowledge and ability to lead, he never seeks to become a leader.…

How disheartening to partake of the greatest deliverance ever recorded and to see such an ungrateful position taken by his kinsmen. The dynamic is then changed as YHVH tells Moses, “Hurry down, for your people, whom you brought out of the land of Egypt, have acted basely.” (v7) YHVH would normally describe Israel as “My people” “whom I brought out of the land of Egypt” (3:7; 29:46). However here we can see the exasperated father throwing his hands in the air saying “I give up let’s do this another way.” Then Moses changes roles from being the deliverer to the mediator.…

He also reminded them what had happened in the past, both the good and the bad. I believe Moses knew that this nation would not always stay as God’s favored nation, because every time the going got tough, they grumbled and complained and even went against what God told them to do. How is this significant today and in my life? I, and probably most Christians alive today are not unlike the Israelites. We know what God has promised us, and we know what we are supposed to do to get it.…

Joshua was a great leader for the people compared to Moses, because in the article “Moonlit leadership: a midrashic reading of Joshua's success” by Hayyim Angel, it explains how it could have “been difficult for the people trust the ever-resolute Moses. Although the elders may have complained that "Moses is like the sun, Joshua like the moon"” What it means by that is, Moses was superior over everyone that no one could even look at him, so he had to wear a veil. Moses was able to speak with God face to face but the people were not allowed to speak to Moses face to face. “Moses’ unparalleled awe of God was so great that he simply could not fathom why his people did not trust God.” This was ironic because Moses had such an incomparable faith…

The writer of the Pentateuch carefully avoided any mention of the name Yahweh until this Theophany insinuates the Israelites’ spiritual situation. Moses’ knowledge of one true God is also vague. The conclusion can be reached from his five objections to God until God get angry and from Moses does not circumcise his son . God appointed circumcision as the sign of the covenant in Abraham’s day (Genesis 17:13), however Moses does not obey it.…

Before the Israelites were freed from Egypt they were slaves, always doing what others told them. When they became free people they had the chance to make decisions and think for themselves, but they had never done that, so they went to Moses, because they were still dependent people. The difference between a slave and a dependent person is one has the opportunity to think and make decisions and the other one cannot. Since the Israelites had never thought for themselves, they were afraid of being wrong, or just did not put the energy into thinking. Only when a person starts think for themselves they become a free and mature person.…

Then Joshua completed Moses’ work by bringing them into the Promise Land. Then Joshua led the conquest against all the nations that occupied the land; killing everyone in their path.
