The Basics Of Artificial Intelligence

For years Hollywood has created a sense of fear when talking about Artificial Intelligence. Movies such as Terminator, Eagle Eye and IRobot are just a few films where self-aware artificial intelligence attempt to harm or destroy humans. Our world is almost entirely supported by technology, so it should be no surprise people fear the idea artificial intelligence. In reality, we interact with artificial intelligence on a daily basis and just because it might not have a robotic body, doesn’t mean it’s not considered artificial intelligence. When exploring topics for this research paper, google used an artificial intelligent system to find the best matches. Artificial intelligence systems are becoming more and more complex, so the technology that …show more content…
In truth all it is, in its basics, is a program that has the ability to learn. For example, Apple’s Siri has the ability to learn information about its user such as their name. Although Siri isn’t always “smart,” Siri can still be classified as an artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence is utilized in a lot of programs we use every day. Without it, we would be unable to chat on Facebook, play Microsoft’s Xbox, write essay with Microsoft Word, and even take selfies. Artificial intelligence is, for the most part, utilized in user-friendly programs such as twitter. There are a select few researchers whose goal is to create a self-aware super intelligent computer system. Which in all reality is a math equation explaining how the human brain thinks, learns and judges’ situations. Google is conducting some of the leading research with their self-driving cars. The technology that has been created for the self driving cars is just a small discovery, but is still ground breaking for artificial …show more content…
Paul Ford, computer programmer and writer from MIT, stated his concerns, “We’re basically telling a God how we’d like to be treated” (Ford 17). Ford goes on to ask the question; why would we design and build a machine that is substantially better than any one person, then give it potential access to most of the world’s WMDs plus information about every single person on earth? The potential destruction could be horrendous. Ford also explains that researchers will create an all-powerful machine that will be potentially superior to humans. It is important to consider that researchers have potential to program an all-powerful entity with capabilities to help the world, but also give it capabilities to potentially harm the humans that are now inferior to their advanced system as

In “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” Nicholas Carr asserts that the introduction of the internet and the use of it has changed behavior patterns of its users, notably, in areas of concentration. These changes can be seen in how users of the internet interact with various webpages they come across. For example, instead of reading an article in its entirety, the user may just skim over it before moving on to the next webpage (737). Carr supports his stance by mentioning past innovations, and the changing of the user’s behaviors with the introduction of new technology.…

A brilliant mind, Ben Goertzel, a Chief Scientist from Brazil, talks in this article about thinking machines and immortality, and how these interesting topics could affect the modern society where we live. He states: “The machines will invent new machines, prototype them, and build the factories, without involving humans” We are evolving to a new era, the age of technology and digitalization. An article from National Geographic states that artificial Intelligence is already integral part of human lives, and we may not be aware of it. This short article gives an idea:…

The number one creation that human beings have seeked for many years, an eternal undying form of simulated life, competent of self-thought, and maintenance and protection. Human beings still have yet to invent a truly intelligent artificial imitated being though. In many respects technology not only helps us complete tasks, but do them more efficiently. Technology is helpful in nearly every aspect of life, such as commuting to work and completing complex tasks. The artificial intelligence (A.I.) presented in society today and in Ray Bradbury's short story "The Veldt" both illustrate examples of ways in which technology can provide both benefits and detriments. Within “The Veldt” we see many examples of artificial intelligence from the nursery to the dining room table. These technologies prove helpful and practical in many respects, yet they also show threats to everyday life.…

Dockrill provides a valuable analysis of why these two students receive such a huge public backlash in response to their research. The artificial intelligence, Arnold, was specifically bred to kill humans in a first-person shooter video game. If the AI ever reached the real world, it would be a catastrophe. A literal killing machine running rampant with plenty of targets is the worst case scenario. This can be used as support to the U.N. General Assembly, 68th session.…

and other “smart” technologies, we allow them to have things like thought, personality and the ability to learn. When given these abilities, we try to study and see if these artificial things have the same thought processes as a human does. According to the article by Joel Achenbach, humans have a built in quality to progress that is given by the universe and this allows for evolutionary process. This is an important part in when humans create things like A.I. and other technologies, the reason being that the understanding of how this progressive quality works is what pushes the better understanding of our creations. To help stimulate this, we allow our creations to have thought and learning processes which allow for these things to be taught and to use the skills taught.…

John M. Ford was an American game designer, poet, science fiction and fantasy writer, and wrote essays like Eventful History: Version 1.x. This essay, written in 19951, was written not too much earlier than Y2K. Y2K was the fear of all computers going berserk after the transition from the year 1999 to the year 2000, due to the uncertainty of computers using two-digit programs interpreting the number 2000, or 00, as 1900. This would have caused huge trouble for places like banks, who would be unable to calculate interest accurately, and for places like nuclear power plants, who would have trouble monitoring water pressure and radiation levels. The essay Eventful History: Version 1.x is about how one day machines will take over. Back when this was written, this would be an actual fear due to Y2K…

The films illustrate how computers will have astonishing levels of intelligence unimaginable to humans. This prediction suggests that artificial intelligence with advanced capabilities will outperform human intelligence. In today’s industrial world, humans are surrounded by the most sophisticated of technologies running phones, banking, space, medical innovation, transport, telecommunication, utility power and even bombs. The annual doubling of computer performance indicates the advancement in its capabilities to exceed human intelligence.…

Specialized artificial intelligence systems are everywhere in the modern world, such as Google searches and the suggestions by Amazon and Netflix. However, generalized artificial intelligence systems are the more commonly perceived definition of “artificial intelligence,” even though researchers are a long way from their development. There are many levels of complexity when working with artificial intelligence, from simple algorithms in video games, to systems that can safely drive a car,…

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the science that makes the machine intelligent, e.g. when the computer makes decisions in a similar way that human does. AI is applied in software or machines From the research I did, the scientists are investigating on two type of AI, one AI is that it has its own personality, it can acts as human, has own emotion, feel what human can feel and its own thinking, so singularity. And this AI has self learning program so it is like human can learn from experience. The other type of AI is like a program that process things automatically, it has kind of human intelligence like choosing the best option in a certain situation but it can not have its own emotion self learning that the human does. I have chosen AI because…

A.I Artificial Intelligence, a film by Steven Spielberg, tells the Pinocchio-esque story of David, a robotic boy who goes on a journey, in search of a Blue Fairy, so that he can become a real boy and earn the love of Monica, his human mother. Dealing with the idea of artificial intelligence and the question of whether or not a machine can have a mind, this film touches on the philosophy of John. R Searle - whose main thought experiment, The Chinese Room, argues that no matter how a computer acts, there is no way that the computer could have the mind or consciousness to understand what it outputs; a computer is nothing more than a machine that is able to act out its programming. Although this movie was thoroughly entertaining and is absolutely…
