Have you ever wondered how a credit card transaction works? What is the process flow after swiping the small credit card through that little black box? These questions bothered me for some time and finding the answers lead to a diligent job search. Consequently, the search ended when I found employment at Vantiv, a Merchant Credit Card processing company in Houston, Texas. The year was 1998; the company offered me a customer service position in their call center. Eagerly I accepted the job; thereby igniting the journey to learn everything about the credit card industry. Determined and motivated to advance my career development successfully was my priority. With that goal in mind, I began to seek information from every avenue available. Reading industry material has proven an intricate tool in my career by giving a clear understanding of how the credit card industry works, leading to job promotions, and offering opportunities to work on projects that have helped the company of Vantiv to grow. Let me answer that for you; I would still be a customer service phone rep with limited skills, accepting things as they seemed and unhappy with my lack of advancement. However, because of the reading, and my personal quest for knowledge, I gained a better understanding of the credit card industry. I advanced in my career with promotions from a phone rep to department manager. I also completed company projects. In the corporate world, especially the credit card industry it is in a constant state of change. To be successful in this industry, you have to continue to seek out the latest information so that you will always be ahead of the industry.
