Multidisciplinary team difficulties when working in partnership
Working together in a multidisciplinary team usually results in achieving better outcomes for children because of the wealth or knowledge and experience that can be utilised. However working with other professionals can be challenging as there are different personalities; differing opinions; availability and time constraints.
It is essential that the members of a multidisciplinary team show professional courtesy and respect to one another, for the best interests of the child concerned. This is best done by setting out ground rules and agreeing good practice before starting discussions.
Agreeing a care plan can take a long time because of the differing ideas on how to diagnose a child’s need and the best way to proceed. However the professionals need to all agree in order to be consistent especially when explaining the strategy to the parents and the setting.
