In fact, the housing crisis has been a challenge social issue in San Francisco for a long period. These programs are excellent because some homeless families need a little more time and focusing supports to get themselves stable before they move in their permanent housing. I think these programs have strong commitment to provide safety and stability while encouraging families involved with “self-exploration, professional skill-building and personal growth, leading to emotional well-being, self-reliance and full membership in the larger community”. I appreciate that Devra provides the handouts of the structure of the organization and the job prescription about case managers, so that I can get more understanding about how they run the organization for 30 years. I am surprised that the work obligations of their case managers. It seems that they have a lot to do with teamwork to corporate the organization working in its high efficiency. It takes in youths that have been most marginalized like being kicked out of shelters and the most vulnerable youths who are dealing with stereotypical issues like trauma, abuse, and addiction in their lives. The myth around homeless youths is that teens are often neglected or abused by their parents. Those who are rejected by their families for who they are, they come to the city to be in a place where nobody knows their name nor their background history in order to have a sense of freedom. Alisha was a homeless girl and worked through the services Evergreen provided, now works at Toronto’s number one steak house restaurant and gives The Evergreen credit for helping her to achieve such high limits and now gives back to the Homeless Youth Community by going to other food shelters and providing them with help at the food banks. The consequences of the being a homeless youth can be fatal because we live in a country where it gets really cold in winter and our body needs to be kept warm, in addition if youths are homeless without the appropriate clothing they could die from unbearable weather or get caught in fatal crimes and end up in jail for the rest of their life.…

The steadily increasing rate of homelessness in Chicago is a social justice issue that is difficult to ignore. It is nearly impossible to walk down Michigan Avenue without noticing the countless shivering, hungry people begging for spare change. Growing up in a southern Alabama town of less than 10,000 residents, I was not truly aware of the issue of homelessness. Homelessness was only a subject which I had seen in the news and in movies. However, when I became a peer helper as a junior in high school, my perception soon changed. I became part of a peer mentoring program, in which I counseled underprivileged and troubled middle school students. Through this program I discovered that homelessness was not a problem rooted in major cities, for it lied even in a town as small my own.…
