In “Housing Discrimination against Racial and Ethnic Minorities”, the federal report examines the differential treatment of minorities in their conquest for housing, a basic necessity. The experiment contains the comparison of whites between one of the three minorities, which were Hispanic, Black and Asian. The participants were categorized by their gender, age and presumed financial status, which realistically captures the only difference, their racial or ethnic background. The hypothesis contained seven different parts, which would be tested through the experiment, the rate the assigned names received an email back for their inquiry, offered to tour the premises, and were informed about other units available. Housing units were divided amongst differing rent ranges and further separated by the classification of private sector or corporations, all which received an email inquiry with the same subject line and body paragraph, the difference was names (Patrick McDougall, Tyrell Jackson, Said Al-Rahman). The results concluded that the African American sounding names scored more negative replies or no reply at all in all categories and received higher rent rates by four to six dollars. Thus, it was concluded African American and Arabic sounding names faced higher racial disparities, which reveals the minorities must face discrimination in the housing
