Scott Momaday. Morrison is a modernist; realist and fiction writer who redefine and reform the way African Americans writers were looked upon during 1945 era. Morrison did not allow society to dictate how she would write her stories. She was poise, confident, bright and a brilliant writer with the novels and followers to prove it. Moreover, there are some similarities in both narratives. The first encounter, Recitatif is a short story where to friends (Roberta and Twyla) meet at a psychiatric hospital. The text describes as Twyla the other girl at Bellevue and Roberta was narrator telling the story. They immediately build a friend that blossom during their stay at Bellevue. Racism and superiority are persistent themes in depicted in the text. Compared to Momaday, he describes racism and superiority of his ancestor as the Calvary took their lives and freedom. Both writers use prose to convey their thoughts to the reader from their own perspective and views. Moreover, Morrison depicted family, racism, religion and historical accounts as theme in the narrative as the girls finally had a visit from their mothers. The writer describes the visit at the chapel on a Sunday; the mother had not seen their daughters in 28 days. They were modern and regional writers that explored life as it actually was without allowing society to influence or dictate their respective poetry writing. Both writers were interested in looking at their past and history in order to move in a new direction in society. Momaday and Morrison refine and redefine by portraying their rich heritage in their novels and writing. They did not allow white history to influence their style of writings.
