House Centipedes Research Paper

Ever since I was little I’ve had a fear of house centipedes. My mom once told me a story where she woke up and there was a centipede on the ceiling above her I am still horrified of house centipedes to this day. The reasons why they scare the crap out of me are because they move fast, they look very gross, and they hide in unsuspecting corners of the house. Whenever I try to catch them they run very fast and are sometimes hard to catch, for example I went to catch one late at night and when I came back from grabbing the paper towel it was gone and I couldn’t find it anywhere. After that I was basically avoiding my floor for the rest of the night. The second reason is that they are very ugly to the eye. They have all of those legs, and

Prehistoric sites around Clinton have been shown to be up to 3,000 years old, but European settlers did not arrive until the 18th century. In 1801, the settlers founded a town that they named Burrville in honor of the country's new vice-president, Aaron Burr. However, Burr fell into disgrace, resulting in the town being renamed in 1809; historians believe that the new name was to honor George Clinton, the vice-president who followed Burr, but the name could conceivably honored DeWitt Clinton, George's nephew and the mayor of New York City at the time. Regardless of how the name was chosen, life in Clinton was not without its challenges, including a variety of pests. Certain termites, for example, prospered in the area's climate.…

I chose to investigate the environmental impact of gypsy moths because I have personally had experience cleaning up after these pests in northern Ohio and I know that they are becoming an issue in other parts of Ohio as well. I was able to witness some of the damage they have done while removing defoliated trees in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Gypsy moths are a non-native, invasive species that, over the past decade, have been coming into the state from Pennsylvania and Michigan. The moth undergoes a complete metamorphosis and while a caterpillar it has the ability to feed on over three hundred species of trees and shrubs and cause serious damage and defoliation. The moth’s preference for oak, make the oak tree particularly at risk because the caterpillars favor it and a tree can typically only withstand two years of defoliation before the damage is permanent or results in the death of the tree.…
