When first examining the House Banda rodents (banis domesticus) of St. Kitts, we learned that on there sister island Nevis, there was a heathy population of House Banda rodent’s present. Upon further examination and testing we learn that on St. Kitts, the House Banda rodents had different behaviors in mating. Because of islands water barrier and the House Banda rodents lack of ability to swim, the two population had habitat isolation which prevented each species from mating with each other. The behavioral changes in the House Banda was due to inbreeding with closely related family members in the St. Kitts population because of man made barriers, preventing the dispersal during mating season.
