Hours Of School

I think that they should stop having five days of school a week. I think they should change it and we should only have four days of school a week. There are some schools out west that only have four days of school a week and we could just add an hour of school to each day so that we could make up for that day that we will miss. It would be way better because then people would have more time during the day to do work because of the extra hour and they would also have a longer weekend that if they had homework they could do it during the extra day. We could just go to school Monday through Thursday and have Friday off, plus that way we could have our Varsity football games on a day off from school. Also nobody wants to go to school on Fridays

Should school districts change a five-day week policy to a four-day week policy? That question is debatable. Jaclyn Melicharek is the author of, "Four-day School Weeks: The Rule to Skip School" she writes about, her opinion on the matter if school days should be longer or shorter and the benefits and disadvantages it will have upon the students. She believes "Changing to a four-day school week is not beneficial"(Melicharek 96).…

Should we have year-round school? Year-round school should be implemented in our school district. Three main reasons why I think there should be year round school is that, for one, it would help prevent long breaks that could potentially weaken students academically, and after the break, it would take a while to review. Secondly, the 9 month calendar we currently use was originally made based around when kids would go home and work on farms, but now, this isn’t a common practice. Lastly, teachers and students would benefit mentally from breaks spread out all throughout the year.…

Did you know that over 2 million US students from over 3000 schools attend year round schooling? Year round schooling should be banned for various reasons such as it causing more behavioral issues, interference with schedules, and just too much school. First of all, year round school should be banned, because it could increase the number of behavioral issues. “Students who have difficulty paying attention are unlikely to get more out of year round schooling. It could increase the number of behavioral issues.”…

They should not be forced to go all year round to school. The school year should not be longer because it gives the students more tension. Ohio State University research “Year Round School Don't Boost Learning” has shown that students who go to school all year only show a 1% better than students who go for a shorter time. These numbers are so low that the benefits of all year school is not worth the extra money that would cost taxpayers. It's not the taxpayers who are paying the costs, families are affected most due to parents having to hire more caretakers or take days off to take care of their kids during breaks. Large studies by Penn State Harrisburg and North Carolina show that academic success comes down to the teacher's skill not the time spent in class. If a teacher doesn't teach well it doesn't matter how many days the students go to school due to the bad teacher.…

A 4-day Week May Be the Solution How does a three day weekend sound? As a student, a three day weekend sounds awesome! With budget cuts, schools have been desperately trying to find a solution and a four-day school week may just be it. Installing a four-day week would mean a Monday or Friday off of school for students and a great deal of other benefits. Not only would this idea provide financial benefits with transportation, school lunches, and staff costs, but also it could potentially increase attendance.…

There are people that want school days to be shortened and others that want school days to be longer. I believe that the school days should be shorter because a large amount of time is wasted during study halls and when they are given in class time assignments. It would be better if school days were shortened because they would have less time to work on assignments because they would not work on them anyways. Some would like to be with their families since their…

Schools barely have enough time to teach kids what they need to know for standardized tests. Rahm Emmanuel, the mayor of Chicago and a supporter of longer school days, said in an interview that because schools don’t have time, “students [essentially] have to pick between social studies versus science; math versus music; reading versus recess." (Schaper, 2012) At least one extra month of school would leave the door open to a lot of learning possibilities. Kids leave grade school and are not prepared for what is ahead of them.…
