The patient fall and injury prevention continues to be a challenge for the healthcare field today. It is the one of the major safety issues in the healthcare facilities. The Joint Commission (2011) requires reducing the risk of patient harm resulting from falls as one of the National Patient Safety Goals (Joint Commission, 2011). The call bell is one of the most important and essential features, which is also often used to create frustration to the hospital staff (health leaders, 2007). Therefore, it is important for the hospital to conduct a research study to determine if hourly rounding benefits patients’ fall. Call light usage and patient satisfaction and addressing the goals set forth by the Joint Commission to reduce the falls in the hospital where I work. In each unit the nursing manager, educators, nursing assistant, and resisted nurse are the resources used for these surveys. The control group in unit 1B doesn’t participate in hourly rounding while 1E is used as the experimental unit that participates in hourly rounding. “One hour rounding”, was observed between 6AM and 10PM, also between 10PM and 6AM staff perform two hour rounding in the unit. Once every two hours the staff walks around the entire unit call two hours rounding on the other hand hourly rounding, the staff monitors the entire unit every hours during the entire 24 hours. During hourly rounding, the nursing staff was provided with a checklist to complete upon rounds, which included assessing pain levels, providing medications when the dose is due, offering toileting assistance, assessing patient position and comfort, and placing the call bell, telephone, bedside table, and water within reach.
