Short Review on Hotel Rwanda The film Hotel Rwanda depicts the story of the war in Rwanda between the Hutu and Tutsi peoples, known as, the Rwandan genocide. Paul Rusesabagina, who plays as Don Cheadle, is a Hutu. He is the manager of Hotel des Mille Collines and lived with his wife Sophie Okonedo, whom was a Tutsi, and their three children. When the Hutu military forces started a campaign for ethnic cleansing against the Tutsi minority, Paul and his family watched neighbors get beaten and killed in the streets. Which demonstrated early stages of genocide. Paul later takes in refugees to his hotel providing them shelter while the U.N. took off, because they were not allowed to intervene with the genocide. In the film, Paul takes on the responsibility of taking care of the refugees, maintaining the hotel, providing strength for his family, and redirect the Hutu soldiers. After all the bribing and threats Paul said to the general, Paul, his family, and the hotel refugees were later able to leave with the help of the U.N. and reached safely behind Tutsi rebel lines. “Hotel Rwanda tells the true story of one man’s courage in the midst of this genocide”. Good versus evil is a prevalent theme when it comes to Christianity. There are many stories in the bible that follow this theme. However, we are taught to be forgiving and fight against the temptation and evil of the world. The theme good versus evil is also prevalent in the film. The evil was the beating and killing of the Tutsi people by the Hutsu soldiers and the good are the figures who helped protect a lot of the refugees and those who risked there lives in order to share the story.
