2.1 Hospitality desk
During a conference in our hotel, we have a special hospitality desk set up near the conference rooms. We also have a concierge desk, for our leisure guests, and the front office, but this desk is set up for the conference guests only. At the hospitality desk, conference guests can get all the information they require about the days schedule, leisure facilities for in their free time and other facilities our hotel has to offer. Also is this hospitality desk the main mean of communication from the guests towards other departments of the hotel. When a guest has a wish concerning, for instant, the F&B department in the hotel, the staff members at the hospitality desk will contact this department and make sure this wish is met as soon as possible (Okura, 2015). As I travel to and fro the Bronx campus every Wednesday, I always look forward to driving on the historic 108-years-old Queens Borough bridge; especially, on the return journey. Why? Driving on the outskirt of the bridge, gives a feeling of hanging on the side rail of the ship deck; wherefore, if I have made any incorrect maneuver, the tragedy would be devastating. The first week I drove on it, I was scared; as a result, I drove below the speed limit of 30 MPH, while admiring its medieval style architectural work, it’s such a great feeling. I thought of writing about this amazing bridge, but instead, chose to present a twenty-first contemporary art. I will share my take on this beautiful dreamscape work of art by Ruby Onyinyechi Amanze.…

The design was actually influenced by the Promenade Plantee, which also serves a similar purpose as the High Line. It is a garden-like path on an old railway line located in France. The year after the High Line’s outline was drafted, in the year 2004, the City government granted fifty million dollars to build the High Line, and in 2005 the abandoned rail line was removed. Soon after, in 2008 the High Line was actually finished after a very intense process. The important issue for designers was to preserve the plants that had grown itself over the several decades between the abandonment of the rail line, and the High Line restoration. Aside from the many varieties of plants that had originally grown themselves, special attention was paid to the shrubs and trees that were newly introduced. They were selected by their abilities to be self-sustainable, so the new path way would not be a huge financial burden on the City. The design of this beautiful pathway was carefully…

Flowers have their own language. There is more to a flower than its outward appearance. Ranging from brilliant proses of playwright William Shakespeare to an impeccable, innovative speech by Boeing’s business leader Harry Stonecipher, flowers bloom in the most diverse means of communication. Flowers give greater meaning to topics such as life and death, and diversity to inner self-being. They bring out emotion and characteristics that the audience is able to relate to. The flower symbolism bases not off of one set description; therefore, this aids it in its relevance to flourish on a universal scale.…

Chapter 5 concentrates attention on what Hirsh terms "The City Woman, or the Should-Be Mother." The chapter opens with a thorough and revisionist discussion of Dutch artist Jan Toorop's "The Three Brides" and its context. Discussion of this painting is deftly related to gender and urban issues as well as eugenics and nationalism. Additional topics of interest brought to bear upon the artwork and the urban context in this chapter are birth rate, infant mortality, contraception, class distinctions, and anarchism, with more examples from French sources, both written and artistic. The extent to which the women in Symbolist art were dominated by men is convincingly shown in Khnopff's "Portrait of Maguerite Khnopff" and Hirsh's discussion of it.…

    Portman Hotel Case Study

The system was designed with very minimal layers of management. Each PV was considered equal with only one manager between the PVs and upper management. Its intention was to lower management overhead, but was a key downfall in its overall success (Heckscher, 1986). The Portman Hotel’s belief that “the caliber of service depended directly on the caliber of the people” (Heckscher, 1986) demonstrates that recruiting played a key role in the original strategy of maximizing service while minimizing overhead. Training was supposed to play a large role in this strategy. “Each PV in the initial group received a two-week training course. Part was on cleaning rooms; part was on other skills needed in their job, such as mixing drinks; and part was on how to judge a guest’s personality so as to know what kind of service to provide” (Heckscher, 1986). In addition, the case study mentions that each PV is only responsible for five rooms, while the average hotel’s maid is responsible for sixteen…

When we talk about the front office, the public may think that it is responsible for handling the check-ins and check-outs only. However, the front office also has the functions other than checking-ins and outs, such as maintaining balanced guest accounts through the property management system (PMS), checking on the room status, handling the mails, faxes, messages and parcels as well as offering the information services (Walker, 2014). The coverage of service to the guests is extensive since the front office can assist the guests on not only the issues about the accommodation, but also their personal issues during their stay at the hotel. Comparing to other departments within the hotel, the front office is the only one which can offer such wide range of services to the guests, including assisting the guests on the personal…
