What makes Hot Topic successful as a retailer is the demographic they are catering to. This company aspires to understand their client, and they tailor services to them. The average 25-year-old Employee is fiercely loyal to the company because of the feeling of being able to fit in, and the fact that they are appreciated for what they contribute to the organization (Manning, 01/2014, p. 281). In addition, Hot Topic places emphases on music and pop culture, which is also important to the demographic. The passion that drives the organizational culture is shared across all levels and positions of the organization. What makes them popular with their employees is that they are happy to work there; their work does not feel like work. Without the constriction of having walls and doors, employees are more at ease and this aids efficiency. Having a sense of equality pertaining to creativity helps the staff and the company as they create and promote new merchandise. I would enjoy working in such an atmosphere because the open-door policy is put into action quite literally. With all employees on the same level knowing their responsibilities and availabilities for work and help, this seems like it would be a great opportunity.
