Stone therapy treatments have become more and more popular in recent times and can now be found as a staple in many salons and spas. An increasing amount of individuals prefer a stone therapy treatment to a regular manual massage as they find the combination of hot cold stones are able to penetrate deeper into the muscle tissue to achieve better healing. Although stone therapy as a professional service is relatively new, massage itself is one of the oldest forms healing employed by practitioners. For thousands of years people from many different cultures have used a combination of touch, heat (thermotherapy) and/or stones as enhancements to their massage treatment. Traditionally, basalt stones from riverbeds or seashores were used as they were believed to be connected to the earth and have their own energies.
