The rhetorical question made me realize that I actually care about education more than I thought I did. I would act just like Mariam if I experienced the same thing as she does, “She pictured herself in a classroom with other girls her age. Mariam longed to place a ruler on a page and draw important-looking lines” (Hosseini 17). Hosseini used the word “longed” to highlight the desire of Mariam, and successfully conveyed to the readers the strong wish Mariam is having for Education. I had never wish to be in school so bad as Mariam did, because for me, education is so normal that it is as casual as eating. But for children who, lived under certain culture or in certain society, are unable to access formal education, their desire for school would be much stronger than mine and therefore would risk more than I would in order to attend school. The situation in difference countries are different, and so are the environments for education. Some schools in the U.S., London, and Canada have nice classrooms, desks, chairs, and black/white boards for teachers and students; other schools in other countries do not have most of the learning material listed above. The big difference in the looks of difference schools allows the audience to compare the learning environment of the students, provide help, and appreciate the materials provided for students.
