Being a good host in the 21st century is quite different than being a host in the times of The Odyssey. Wi-Fi passwords, different forms of entertainment, and other sophisticated arrangements play a constant role in today’s society. During the Odyssey, a good host is exemplified in the King Menelaus’ manners towards his guests. He treats his guests by giving them a five star feasts, without questioning them. The King not only welcomes them so kindly as a host, but he makes them feel at home with his deep desire to welcome the outsiders as much as he can. My culture can inherit the way hospitality is not only a gesture, but a way to create a personal relationship, between two strangers to blossoming into friends. It can learn that anyone you encounter in life is facing their own battles and could always run to open arms when in need. From the more negative experiences throughout the Odyssey, my culture can learn that there’s always a better way to handle a person who creates an issue or doesn’t agree with you.
