The Inspector General is at the forefront of medical liability reform. With investigations and audits now the norm in our world, it is extremely important that we provide the standard of care to each patient and bill accordingly to their treatment or illness. As healthcare reform starts to decrease the overall number of uninsured, we still have a lack of community-based resources such as primary care and preventive services, not to mention services for patients with chronic conditions. With this being said, we need more services to see more patients to become more efficient. We need to do all of this while falling into line with CMS to get the appropriate reimbursements. It is also important that we work with other organizations, suppliers, and vendors to control the costs associated with expanding services. (About ACHE., 2015)
Complementary and Alternative medications (CAM) has a growing fan base. Many people focused on eating clean and being healthy are turning to these alternative therapies. The downside is that most patients have to pay out-of-pocket for these therapies. (CTU, 2013) If we were to provide clinical trials for CAM, we might be able to encourage managed care plans to reimbursement for these therapies as a treatment option at lower cost. (CTU, 2013)
Technology is another key area that will optimize patient care and patient admissions. Each day, experts in health care devise new methods of patient care and services. We wouldn’t be able to do this without advances in technology. These changes affect how care is rendered and can mean the difference between a long, invasive surgery and the patient taking a long time to recover, or a less invasive procedure with a fast recovery time.
