Hospital Falls And Fall Prevention: A Case Study

One example of a quality issue is falls and fall prevention in hospitals. Primarily, because “hospital falls are among the most commonly reported adverse events in hospitals” (Murphy, 2013, p.365). The cause of falls are numerous but, the result of falls is the same, “increased length of hospitalization and increased utilization of resources” (p. 365). Therefore, to reduce cost and to improve patient recovery which in essence improves quality of care it is crucial that falls, of any type, are prevented.
The quality of services provided by the hospitals can only improve if the type or sources of falls are identified and who is more susceptible to falling. Are patients falling intentionally to get attention, are they confused, are falls
