Comparing apples to apples, I found that healthcare administration has an average annual income of $92,810, and the lowest paying job in the career paid $55,890 (Summary). This gives me confidence that I will be able to provide for my family no matter what area of healthcare I work in. Next on the list is nightshifts. According to the OOH, only two of the major areas in healthcare administration require nightshift work: hospitals and nursing homes. While this is somewhat of a disappointment, there are still many other career options in the field. Many of the other career options would even allow me to work the traditional nine to five job, giving me more time to be with my family. Finally, a career in healthcare administration offers good job security. Because I will be pursuing a master’s in business administration, I will also be able to work in virtually any business in any place I live. One negative from my research is the possibility of working nightshift and being on call. While this is something that I could do for a while, I do not want to work nightshift regularly for the rest of my life. I also have options once I enter the workforce that will allow me to work a more structured schedule. The only other negative is the necessity of making unpopular decisions. I typically avoid conflict whenever possible, and human resources is an area where conflict can easily arise. Other than those things, this career is still the path I want to take and I look forward to working in the medical field. I feel much more confident that my college education is leading me in the right direction now that I understand more fully what I will be doing
