Hosea Research Paper

Hosea, son of Beeri, was a prophet who was the first minor prophet presented in the bible.(Collegeville 36) Being named Hosea, which means "salvation", he lived during the final days of the Northern Kingdom in the middle of the eighth century, BCE, at a time of much turmoil and political uprising.(Collegeville 36) For example, there were six kings who reigned for 25 years.(bible) For 38 years, Hosea was an active prophet, from the year 750 BCE to 722 BCE, the end of the Northern Kingdom.(bible) During Hosea's time, the Southern Kingdom was going through great prosperity.(raystedman) Four kings, Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, who were decendants of David reigned in the southern kingdom.(raystedman) In contrast, the Northern Kingdom was experiencing difficult times, with frequent kings and people not beliving in God and disobeying in laws.(raystedman) Hosea was active until the Assyrians took control of the land, marking the end of the Northern Kingdom.(bible).

The major theme of Hosea is God's mercy for the Northern Kingdom.(lifehopeandtruth) There are three categories of this theme. The first one explores the honor of faithfulness to God.(esv) Some people may compromise their faith or destroy their faith in God.(esv) These temptations are different to different people, but in an overall message, the northerners had been told to be faithful to God.
