Involvement in agriculture has taught me many different things. Sone of these facts include that goats really do have wings (long, hairy appendages located at the base of the tail), some of the world’s earliest civilizations thrived on and invented many farming and propagation practices we utilize today, and that only a fraction of the estimated 215,000 species of plants known to man make up the millions that are propagated for food and foliage every year. Agriculture is Florida’s second largest industry, only second to tourism as a famous mouse and whale call Florida home in addition to the all of the other crops and animals, and it takes many people to keep the industry at the standard that is needed to feed our world today.
My involvement has also shown me that agriculture is not only a terrific path to pursue as a college major and future career that not only has plenty of jobs that are both enjoyable and beneficial, but also many different opportunities to pursue. As a longtime member of 4-H and FFA in school, horticulture always captured my attention. In FFA, I was the recipient of a national research grant to try my hand at plant tissue culturing my junior year of high school, and state runner up and state winner awards for ornamental horticulture demonstrations in 2013 and 2014 respectively. Within 4-H, I conducted a horticulture project all through high school, and was a member of horticulture judging teams that placed in the top five in the state for two years, and was named as third high individual in the state my senior year. Now, in college, I have taken an upper biology class and several related to education and communication, and have plans to take more related to these subjects and horticulture in the
