Training horses doesn’t just require skill but it also requires a lot of patience. Whether it being a mounted shooting horse or a show horse, they both take up a lot of time and effort. Teaching a toddler right from wrong is very similar to learning how to break a horse. For example, when training a shooting horse, it takes time for it to learn that the gun isn’t going to hurt the. Therapeutic riding is an awesome experience for the trainers and for the participants. In my opinion it is way more rewarding then training a mounted shooting horse for law enforcement, but some may disagree. I still think training mounted shooting is still rewarding just not as much. Although they both help out in the community but one goes more noticed then the other. That is why I like therapeutic riding more because it helps out those who are less fortunate then us. Helping kids who are less fortunate then us is the best way I am able to help out in the community. I know it isn’t compared to being a police officer, a firefighter, or an EMT but it does help out more then what people realize. The article I have chosen for this reflection paper is “Look Out Kid, It’s Something You Did,” written by Bernadine Dohrn in 2013. This article details the criminalization of children as it has progressed over the past few decades. It opens with examples of school shootings and how they have shifted the public perspective of violence perpetrated by adolescents. With the proliferation of handguns in the homes of adolescents within the United States, the rates of children murdered by other children have skyrocketed. I feel there is a strong aspect of shock value when it comes to instances like these, which draws a disproportionate amount of media attention, but this does not account for the staggering results of cases of this nature.…

Policy Recommendations: 1. Mandatory Reports of Police Use of Deadly Force cases and characteristics The FBI reports crime data on almost every crime committed in the United States yet there is no requirement for departments to report police use of deadly force statistics. Currently, most of society is not educated about Athletic Training. This is likely accurate because Athletic Training is comparatively new in the health care system and it is a distinct form of care. Only athletes or those who are involved in an athletic profession have access to Athletic Trainers. I believe that education is crucial to making Athletic Training even more successful than it already is. Most members of society presumably do not know that Athletic Trainers are health care professionals.…

This organization states, “Our Mission is to encourage and provide Frederick County, Maryland citizens with medically certified mental, physical and/or emotional disabilities with equestrian activities to learn basic horsemanship skills, improve physically with better muscle tone, balance and posture; and improve their emotional…

Special needs children often must search for ways to cope with their disabilities. Doctors and many of their legal guardians understand this, yet they also believe that horseback riding can be a very effective and beneficial way for children with special needs to improve upon their physical, cognitive, sensory, and emotional skills. Therapeutic horseback riding usually consists of a very well trained instructor whom has both experience with both equines and children with disabilities, one or two handlers keeping the rider in place, and one person holding onto the horse. As riders progress, they may start to have less people with the horse, and more people watching from the side just in case.…
