Horse Rider Monologue

Decent Essays
Wind in my hair, the solid and heavy, steady beat of hooves on the ground. I throw my head back laughing in joy. This is how to live. The sound of leather stirrups rubbing against a large saddle is one of my favorites, along with the happy breathing of a horse being given its head to run free. The feeling of reins in hand and a hard saddle under you, making your everything ache after a successful and long day, is to die for. The smell of sweat and dirt, mixed with the feeling of success, is what one wants. Seeing the ground bob up and down, more than five feet below you, and not being afraid, is quite a sight. There is no other bond quite like horse and rider. To be able to stay up on such a large magnificent creature, and know it

Ponyboy was really the first person I could express my opinions to and the first person I could really talk to about how I feel about this stupid social division we have to go by. Even though he doesn’t really understand how we Socs have problems too, I can see that he at least sort of understands- not completely, but just a little… Knowing that he sort of understands is a mixed feeling of relief and just a bit of an absurd feeling as well, I mean, a Soc and a greaser actually having a nice conversation.. I didn’t expect him to actually understand at all, but I also didn’t expect him to be completely ignorant about it either. “Cherry, look what’s coming,” Marcia quickly addressed. I watched the blue Mustang as it was coming down the street.…

Every little girl grows up loving horses, but most outgrow that desire. I never did. When I was young, I was scared of them because the first horse I fed a carrot to looked as though he could eat me. I was 4 years old and also the size of his head. For the longest time, I wished to ride and train horses even though I did not know a single thing about doing that; today, I teach other people more about how horses work within their herd and how humans can better work with their horse.…

I’ve realized in my lifetime that saddling a horse that you are going to ride is not as natural of an act to other people as it is to me. Since the moment I had both the strength and height to lift my own tiny saddle up to the back of my animal, I was saddling by myself. These days in the time that I set aside to ride, I don’t even think about the act of saddling, I could almost finish the act blindfolded. In my realization that not all people know how to saddle a horse and if they have an idea it may not be the proper way, I decided to share my knowledge in this area with others.…
