Someone who is good at riding will seem like he is one with the horse. It looks so easy- all you have to do is just sit there, right? The rider can make the horse do anything that he pleases. All he needs to do is just will the horse to do so. When you are new to riding, there is no hiding your flaws. All of them will come to the surface. The horse will not look bad- he will seem at least five times smarter than you. Who does this stupid person think he is? He thinks he can control a horse who weighs 1000 pounds! I should think not! You could have a great time cantering around the field. Your horse is controlled, you are comfortable, and both you and your horse are having fun. Or you could have an -um- exhilarating time. Yes, you get your horse to canter. It seems to be going along smoothly until your horse decides he wants to go in the barn and eat some oats and visit his friends. He takes you by surprise and dashes down the hill to the barn. You have no control over your horse and duck just in time to avoid banging your head on the barn roof. Horses do not need riders to guide them because they are dumb animals. No, it is for the exact opposite reason. Horses are very intelligent and generous as well. They want to share their wealth of knowledge with their human friends. Of course, in order to do that, they can’t just do what the rider wants them to do. The rider must ask what they want in a precise, exact manner. And that manner can’t be easy. The horses want their weak riders to build up muscle. Horse riding is hard work, but it is completely worthwhile. Nothing can compare to the thrill of racing your horse around the ring.
