Horse Farm Descriptive Writing

A day on the horse farm I’ am frightened out of a deep sleep by someone calling my name in a rambunctious voice, and a light gleaming through my eyes. Dazed, I peel my eyes to see my father fixed in the doorway to my chaotic room. He yells that I need to get in gear that it is 4:00 a.m., and I’m wasting daylight by dragging around and taking my time. I rumble around disoriented to find my clothes and get dressed. The whole time I’ am wondering in my head why I get up this early to visit the rough outdoors. I want to go back to bed and get some more sleep, but I know my dad will be back to make sure that I’ am getting ready. Instead I put my brown Justin boots and my broad-brimmed, white cowgirl hat on, and stepped out to gather the horses. The horses are all delighted because it is dark and they are not that collaborating. My dad and I got them saddled up and loaded up in the trailer, and I went back into the house to grab our lunch, water, and of course our cup of …show more content…

I can see pillars of light totally outlining the jagged mountains, as I glance across the valley. At the top of the biggest hill, I can ascend a tree and stare out over the horizon at the valley. While passage one by N.S. Momaday creates a nostalgic and appreciative tone with the implementation of heavy imagery, elaborate sentences, and precise diction in order to explain the magnitude and the appearance of the landscape, passage two by D. Brown establishes a cryptic and melancholy tone with employment of rich imagery, compound sentences, and descriptive diction, with the intention to explain a cynical attitude towards what has happened to the plains. Although both passages employ approximately the same methods to achieve their purpose, the authors’ purposes are different. Even though the two authors may describe the exact same landscape, both of them have different viewpoints on the landscape in order to achieve their own intentions.…

Journal Entry 1 – Descriptive Entry (Act II - Proctor) Diary, Although I had promised myself to never open and write in this book again, I can’t help but feel that today’s events should be recorded in here so I can set them away from my mind. I placed my rifle down beside the fireplace as I was welcomed in by the wave of warmth, a distinct contrast from the merciless chill outside.…

The smell of sage and grains waft through rolled down windows as the ever present breeze blows across the prairie. Or during winter, when a thin layer of snow clings to the grass as winds scream across the sky. Here houses are few and far between, it is true openness, true freedom. Reconciliation Interrupted by the faint sounds of birds chirping and grass swaying in the gentle breeze, the calming silence became a distant memory. As the birds flapped their wings, moving at the edge of the tiny meadow, from one tree to the next, they cast their shadows over the body of a small brown skinned, black haired girl. She lay on her back in the hilltop grass, facing directly up towards the almost blinding light of the afternoon sun. Her dark skin, holding a lively warm glow, reflected the rays of sunlight off of her quickly flickering eyelids. Suddenly, they were open, revealing her dark brown almond shaped eyes and her ever so slightly off white sclera.…
