Horror movies can have a large amount of side-effects on people, depending on the individual and how they react to it. Some people may find scary movies to be fun and awesome, while others can see them as incredibly petrifying. This can be attributed to the Emotion Theory, which states that “our interpretation of these same psychological cues can be different depending on the individual” (Mathers, AP psychology teacher). Most people experience erratic heartbeat and rapid breathing. Those who find horror movies rather entertaining might compare the experience to riding a roller-coaster. If you were to ever find yourself with your life at stake due to a harmful threat, you might be able to use some skills people in those horror movies have done. If one was being chased by a maniac, they could remember to look at where they are running and make sure they don’t trip and face plant to the ground. If one was to find themselves hearing a strange noise somewhere in their home, they would remember from horror movies that it’s best to not investigate or linger since it might just lead them to their untimely demise. In that situation, it would help to scurry out of there as fast as possible and phone the police as it could be a potential murderer.
All in all, the effects of horror movies can vary depending on the person watching it. The consequences can be severe or mild. The damage can last for several days, weeks, even years. It really does all depend on how the person reacts to the movie. The thrill seekers will have a good adrenaline rush. The ones who are nervous and scared might experience unpleasant emotions.
