Essay On Self Awareness Theory

When working with the Preschoolers at the Nicollet Early Childhood Center (NECC) these past couple weeks has been an astonishing opportunity and a learning experience. Being able to observe these children at a different cognitive level ranging from infants, toddlers, and now to preschoolers has been invigorating. Working with these younger children has helped myself better understand the intersectionality; ranging from the children’s age, their ethnicity, gender, disabilities and much more.
When recognizing a clients culture and values that enhance privilege and power it is important as the social worker to understand and identify the clients problems such as, gender, race, color, sexual orientation, age if they have a disability and even religion. It is also important to gain sufficient self-awareness to eradicate the influence of personal preference when working with a diverse group. Being able to engage with them as they continue to become more educated and understand things is very rewarding. Working with the preschoolers I also found to be much more challenging, the children are at the stage where they are very headstrong in their decisions. Addressing issues to the children can be very challenging when they are upset.
In the article Hope Theory, it talked about the importance of goal-directed energy. It is important to keep a positive vibe when working with the children, to have a goal directed energy and keep working towards meeting the goals you have set. Working with the preschoolers we push them to problem solve and build self-esteem. Being a preschooler, it is the teacher’s job to prepare them for kindergarten and to work with them in the academics area.
