In order to achieve hope, one must perform actions in order to get results. This is shown throughout the entire book; it is in the beginning, middle, and end. In the beginning of the book the setting is with all of the kids crashing into the water, and making their way to the land. When they get to the land they see they’re on an island. They observe that the island has no adults on it from the crash. Once they see this they all look around a bit, and ponder what to do next. From this point, the clans divide into two groups. Jack is the leader of one group and Ralph is the leader of the other. Jack and his group wants fire, and go to extreme lengths to achieve it. Jack’s clans attack Ralph 's clan and they are injured badly. “Ralph allowed the swollen flap on his cheek close to his eye again”. (240) Jack steals Piggy 's glasses since those are the source of creating fire. From here on Jack goes savage on his own friends and fellow survivors. In Jack’s eyes, he sees it as if someone isn’t with him, then they are against him. Once Ralph, Piggy, and his clan get some strength back and time to discuss what happened, they come up with a solution. Piggy is furious that he can barely see now that his glasses have been stolen. He is to his point, of being fed up with Jack. Piggy makes a great argument and then Ralph 's clan confronts Jack and tries to be civil about everything that happened. They are taking the right steps and actions in order to achieve their goal. This is a turning point, because Piggy stands up for himself and gets his voice and; for once speaks his mind. The others listen and Piggy is determined to end all of the bullying towards him by all of Jack’s clan. “I’m going to him with this conch in my hands. I’m going to hold it out. Look, I’m going’ to say, you’re stronger than I am and you haven’t got asthma. You can see, I’m going’ to say, and with both eyes. But I don’t ask for my glasses back, not as a favor. I don’t ask you to be a sport, I’ll say, not because you’re strong, but because what’s right’s right. Give me my glasses, I’m going to say you got to!” (242) From this a fight breaks out and Piggy is killed in the incident. He didn’t get to speak his mind really and no one really felt bad about him dying. Once this happens, Ralph 's runs and he is being hunted by Jack and his clan. Ralph
