Many casualties can be attributed to Mother Nature. The novels Alive, by Piers Paul read, and Into Thin Air, by Jon Krakauer, exemplify survival, hope, and perseverance as the characters struggle against the elements. Survival is inspired by hope, and hope is derived from people and objectives. Perseverance is what takes people the extra mile to achieve the goal of survival.

Everest. Risking their lives for the desire to reach the highest place on earth, this once in a lifetime opportunity captivated the hearts and minds of these climbers. “‘From the time we arrived at the South Col,’ says John Taske,...’Yasuko was totally focused on the top - it was almost like she was in a trance’” (Krakauer 184). The hope to climb Everest clouded the inexperienced’s judgment to stack their lives against the odds. Hope is the basis of action, people do things because they hope for a desired result. Keep Everest open In my opinion I think that we should keep everest open for the following reason. My first reason is that if you were to ask anyone who has done any accomplishment in his/her life you will hear them say that they have a sense of achievement that they felt like they could almost do anything and that when you climb that mountain even if you just go up a few hundred feet you feel like you just beat the odds that you had against yourself and that you rose from your personal “jail” that keeps you from going to a higher limit. Once you start going up Everest that is what you decided. Sure some friends were accepting of this, but you still decided to even think of climbing Everest in the first place you knew that once you went up…

Lastly I shared a personal experience of when I was confronted with conflict confining in hope to pull through, also using somebody I know of as an example of perishing due to not being able to confine in…
